One of the Escalante Canyons Marathons' most Memorable Moments for the Runners, is to cross the Hogsback. This stretch of National Scenic Hi-Way 12 has no Guardrails and a drop of 400 feet on either side.
The View is Spectacular looking East over Boulder Creek out towards the Burr Trail, and WaterPocket Fold. South to Navajo Mountain 70 miles away over a Painted Desert of Slick Rock Canyons and under Crystal Blue Skies. To the west and 400 feet below the road the Canyon formed by Calf Creek cuts through the Sandstone walls an is nestled below the Death Hollow Wilderness. On the horizon the Vermillion Cliffs and famous Powell Point.
To the North the beautiful Boulder Mountain rises to over 10,000 feet with the Fall Foliage just beginning to turn.
This is the most Beautiful Marathon you will ever run.
